Water

Providing access to life’s essential resource.

10/6/2025

Deborah McCormick remembers a childhood where water was abundant, collected from the numerous springs and streams that flowed year-round, regardless of the season. As the village population increased, however, a wave of new construction began. People built homes near the streams, gradually filling in these natural waterways with land until the free-flowing spring water became scarce.

In response, the community launched an ambitious project called "Scan Water." Funded by contributions from every household, they built a central reservoir to pipe water to various neighborhoods. For a couple of years, this system worked, providing a modern solution to the growing crisis.

Unfortunately, the triumph was short-lived. The Scan Water reservoir eventually dried out, leaving the community in a more difficult position than before. Having lost both their natural water sources and their engineered solution, the villagers are now forced to find new, alternative ways to secure potable water.

This is the intermittent tank linking the catchment and reservoir.

The man who started it all

2025 - Reservoir pipes are now overgrown with weeds due to a lack of funding.

Meet Mr. Louis Nforbelie Ngwa, famously known in the community as Tantoh Tangie Louis. He is the brain behind the water catchment. Mr. Ngwa dedicated several years (between 2016 and 2021) despite his busy work schedule, doing feasibility studies, and soliciting funds from his social network and Mbelewa sons and daughters at home and diaspora. The creation of MNCP in 2021 was timely as we are continuing to build on the foundation that Mr. Ngwa had in place - a solid catchment and an intermittent tank that are connected to the reservoir with the vision of enhancing the lives of future generations through humanitarian services. He will play a pivotal role in future projects.
